Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura
Inhabitants 120,000
Capital City Puerto del Rosario
Surface 354.288 ha
Location 28Âș 24' N - 14Âș W

Fuerteventura is the oldest of the eight Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean near the African coast. Due to the unique nature with the spacious, protected nature reserve and the spacious marine habitats the island was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. Fuerteventura has a mild climate with more than 300 sunny days a year. In addition to those perfect climate conditions, forming part of the European Union, the island is a place of geopolitical security and comparatively low cost of living. The locals are known as open minded people with an impartial manner. So altogether, you will find the perfect requirements to enjoy some carefree vacations.

The endless beaches in the south and in the north of the island invite to swimming, sunbathing and to enjoying some long extended walks. We highly recommended trips to the beaches of Sotavento, the protected National Park of the Dunes of Corralejo, the lagoons in El Cotillo, as well as the fascinating beaches of Jandia, La Pared and Cofete. Over all, there are still some almost untouched, unique places like the caves of Ajuy, the little harbour of Los Molinos and beautiful hiking paths in the spectacular volcanic landscapes with splendid panoramas.
One of the tasty highlights is the goat cheese with which the goat farmers already won various international prizes. Other culinary traditions are the famous tapas and the local fish.

With its wide range of water sports, relaxation and excursions, Fuerteventura is considered not only a perfect holiday island but also a place to live an alternative lifestyle.

“

Fuerteventura is an island [...] very rich in the nobility of its inhabitants, the Majoreros, as they are called, and in the marvellousness of its climate.

You cannot leave without having tried the popular papas arrugadas with mojo. You'll find them in almost every bar or restaurant, it's a classic. Fuerteventura is also famous for its goat cheese. The best place to try is fresh at the farmer's.

Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Canary Islands and especially famous for the influence from its artist Caesar Manrique who lived there his whole life. Thanks to him, the appearance and buildings all over the island still reflect the same aesthetics. The protected area of the National Park Timanfaya with its geysers of steam still are on of the most stunning attractions and proof of the ongoing volcanic activity. The whole island is a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

“

It has always been my curiosity which has marked my career and enriched my spirit, with the knowledge gleaned from scrutinising all the cracks in the ground, analysing everything in search of the infinite forms, textures and colours which are constantly revealed, both difficult to explain and understand, but all of which fascinated me. In that pleasure of observation, I came to a kind of integrated understanding - Nature generously gave me what others neither see nor comprehend.

Quick Infos

There are several ferries going throughout the whole day. The crossing is approximately 30 minutes.

The Mirador del Rio, a viewpoint in the north with views of the neighbouring islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Santa Clara, Roque del Oeste and Roque del Este. The Jameos del Agua lava tunnel, now used as a concert hall. The wine-growing region of La Geria, including wine tasting, of course.

It's always a fairly mild climate with 25ÂșC during the day. In the evening sometimes it can be chilly and there's also the possibility of a few rainy periods, but you can be sure to wake up on the sunny side again the next morning.
